Rising R-number, falling doubling time: India will witness a bigger Covid surge in coming days
As several parts of the country witnessed a surge due to the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19, two indicators – effective reproduction number and doubling time – suggest a further increase in cases in the coming days. Doubling time is the number of days taken for cases to double. We analyse the trends for these indicators in states which are reporting over 500 new cases daily and highlight the exponential growth in states with very high R-values.
