Bariatric surgery may reduce severity of coronavirus in obese patients

Washington [USA], Nov. 28 (ANI): A history of bariatric surgery in obese patients who tested positive for COVID-19 was significantly associated with a lower risk of hospitalization and intensive care unit hospitalization, a clinical study in Cleveland shows. In a study of 4,365 patients who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 between March 8, 2020 and July 22, 2020, the researchers identified 33 patients who had had weight loss surgery (20 patients underwent gastric reduction surgery) (13 patients had Roux-en-Y gastric reduction).
